My Top Five Books I Read in 2021.

Last year I read 57 books, here are my favorites, along with a thought or two on why they made the cut.

#5. Digital Minimalism – Cal Newport

This book was such a well written piece on technology, how to use it in an intelligent way, and how to not lose your soul to the black hole of the internet haha. I highly recommend it.

#4. People to be Loved – Preston Sprinkle

I read this book in preparation for a series I was preaching on sexuality. This book specifically looks at homosexuality and the scriptures, and was by far the best book I have read on the subject. The scholarship and the readability of the book was next level. Preston Sprinkle is one of the absolute best thinkers and writers on this subject, and I can’t recommend this book enough if you’re looking to dive deeper into a biblical view on homosexuality and really understand the subject better.

#3. Working the Angles – Eugene Peterson

My friend Brock gave me this book, and honestly it took me a while to start reading it. It took a while because it not only has a boring title, but also a boring looking cover. (Just being honest.)

HOWEVER, this is probably my favorite book I’ve ever read on pastoral leadership and what it means to be a pastor. If you are involved in church leadership, I highly recommend this book.

#2. Live No Lies – John Mark Comer

I read this whole book in one day.

I couldn’t put it down.

This is by far the best book I have ever read on “spiritual warfare.” And I use quotes, because I think that phrase is often misunderstood. Here’s the deal. Buy this book. It is so important, and it was such an eye opener to the way that the devil is working through distraction, misinformation, lies, and how we, as Christians, can live our lives free from the lies that try to sabotage our souls.

#1. Gentle and Lowly – Dane Ortlund

This book brought me to tears.

I was so moved by this book and how it opened my eyes to the heart of Christ in a new and beautiful way I had never seen before. This will be one that I plan to read again and again for years to come.
